Dallas’ new frontcourt starter was courtside to bond with several Mavericks at NBA summer league this week.
He’d been in communication with Rockets leadership since the end of the regular season about a likely move. He hadn’t played the last seven games of the regular season as lottery-bound, rebuilding Houston turned to young player development and hoped to maintain their strong odds for a top-four pick. But Wood — entering the last year of his contract, eligible for a four-year, $77 million extension in December — is satisfied with his shift in position in a scheme Kidd has often hesitated to label with traditional positions anyway.Entering his seventh NBA season with his seventh franchise, Wood is eager to play alongside Doncic,Wood said he’s been to Dallas once since the trade, but hasn’t settled on a place to live.
