Rangers insider Evan Grant answers questions about how the heralded rookie can get back on track and whether or not Kirby Yates has become the team’s new closer.
If there is a way to explain the Rangers hitting philosophy it is this: Know yourself, maximize the zones where you can do damage and don’t let a pitcher executing pitches create bad habits. I don’t get too caught up in rules. Everybody has to play by them. Haven’t even had a lot of issues with the rule change revolution of the last couple of years. But I have thought about this a couple of times recently, especially with how games have sped up: I think I’d be OK with getting rid of the three-batter rule for pitchers. I think the ability to bring in lefties to face one batter adds an element of strategy and creates some interesting decisions.
But, look the rotation was an area that was perceived thin going into the year. I know that the Rangers signedand have Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom all rehabbing from injuries. But one setback for a rehabbing pitcher and one injury to the current rotation and you are suddenly thin again.
