Jenna Drobeck taking up beach volleyball makes mom happy
Kelly Drobeck was the driving force behind the introduction of girls beach volleyball as a club sport in 2013.
“Mom and I would always pepper the volleyball in the driveway and I went to watch her play in beach tournaments all the time,” the 5-foot-6 Jenna said. When it became obvious Jenna wasn’t going to be at least 6-foot tall, indoor volleyball took a back seat.“Despite limited height, I have an equal chance to succeed like I couldn’t do indoors,” Jenna said. “On the beach, both players have to do a bit of everything.
Beach volleyball began as a club sport with just a handful of teams. This spring, there are 37 schools playing.
