Back in February, community members grew outraged when the shelter was set to euthanize a dog named Pursuit, which led to many protests and demands for the executive director to step down. “There was a lack of responsiveness. There was no response to a lot of people who did reach out to try to help, to try to find an alternative for that dog,” said Nancy Valdez, a former employee at HSHA.“There’s just a lack of transparency,” commented Valdez. “Even though Amy was so good at bringing in money, she was excellent at fundraising, but she also cost the organization a lot of money.
