With three minutes remaining before halftime, Stevens defensive tackle James Proctor recovered a fumble at the Harlan 14-yard line. Two plays later, Brashears connected with tight end Gabriel Cook, who fought off physical coverage from the cornerback to make the catch in the end zone and cut the Harlan lead to 10. Stevens junior kicker Matteo de Hoyos pushed a 43-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired in the first half to pull the Falcons to within a touchdown.
The Hawks countered when Gonzales added a fourth touchdown to his tally, rushing through the heart of the Falcons’ defense for an 8-yard score. Moments later, Brashears threw a 25-yard strike to receiver Devon Tristan to make it 38-31 with just more than a minute left in the third quarter.
