The International Olympic Committee’s medical director asked World Health Organization officials Thursday if coronavirus risks could be reduced by downsizing events, raising the prospect that the virus could affect the staging of qualifying events for this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

The IOC’s Richard Budgett asked the question during a web conference hosted by the WHO about the coronavirus and major sporting events. The event was attended by representatives of several sports organizations, including golf tours.
