Joey Logano wins Las Vegas, locks in Championship Four spot.
Expected NASCAR Cup Series championship contenders Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr. have already been eliminated from title contention in 2022. With four spots available in the finale and only Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, and Denny Hamlin still alive among drivers who have made a career Championship Four appearance, at least one title contender will come to Phoenix with a shot to win a title.
Over the next three laps, he waited patiently for an opportunity and found it when Chastain came across lapped traffic on corner exit. Logano dove inside, then held his line next to Chastain for half a lap before finally clearing the leader out of turn 2. Chastain never got a shot to fight back, handing the win and guaranteed spot in November's Championship Four for Logano.
His Penske teammate Ryan Blaney still has to fight for his spot in the Championship Four. Despite incredible speed and strong finishes throughout the season, Blaney has still yet to win a race in 2022. He was running in the top three when his car snapped loose with an apparent mechanical failure late today, leaving him 28th and pushing him to 11 points behind the Championship Four cut line.
