A McDonald's store in DeSoto was painted this month to celebrate Hispanic art as part of its Ritmo y Color campaign. Arlington artist Christopher Gonzalez was...

The mural is called Warrior's Spirit and it features an Aztec warrior, a jaguar and a macaw.

Ritmo y Color kicked off in 2021 in Miami, Houston and Los Angeles. In 2022, restaurants in Miami, Dallas, Phoenix and Los Angeles were painted. In 2023, McDonald’s restaurants in New York, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago, San Jose, and Miami are participating in the effort.In all cases, a store located in an area representative of the Hispanic population is chosen to be transformed, and in North Texas, DeSoto was selected.“As a young kid, we traveled to Mexico, and my mom and dad really wanted me to learn what were the Mayans or Yucatan, and they wanted me to see our heritage,” Gonzalez said.

In addition to the murals, McDonald’s celebrates la Latinidad with music, and this year’s chosen artist is Camilo, a Colombian singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. People can voteYou can visit the mural at McDonald’s at 909 N. Beckley Avenue in DeSoto or visit the campaign website at
