“Olivier’s background, skills, and vision make him the clear choice for the job,” said ACCS board member Jeb Shell of Mobile, who served on the president’s search committee. “He is an inspiring and energetic leader with a long-term vision for Bishop state.”group of Alabama Democratic lawmakers held a news conference objecting to what they said was a revolving door of presidents at the lone community college in Mobile.
State Rep. Barbara Drummond, D-Mobile, speaks during a news conference on Monday, June 6, 2022, outside of Bishop State Community College in downtown Mobile, Ala. . “We don’t think that is good for the community college system of Alabama,” said Jones. “There are people throughout this state who have a real concern about that process.”
The lawmakers were concerned over the dismissal of Lawrence Brandyburg as interim president while a full-time presidential search was underway. Charles Jones was then appointed in early June as the interim president.Lawmakers said the revolving door of presidents was concerning for Mobile because of Bishop State’s role in serving as a workforce development center for large companies like Airbus. The company, in May, announced it was providing a new job training program at Bishop State.
