Artist renderings show plans for play structures for the inclusive playground that is now open at the The Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch.in Pearland has opened that is designed to accommodate all children, including those with cognitive delays and sensory processing disorder.
The $1.36 million, 9,200-square-foot Ed Thompson Inclusive Park at the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek features play structures allowing wheelchair access such as a dome-shaped"We Go Round" merry-go-round structure that is level to the ground. A grand opening ceremony at the playground, 13050 Shadow Creek Parkway, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday that will include storybook readings, games and food trucks.
"There are very few things we get to enjoy in life that are as pure as the smiles and laughs that the kids have when they get to go down the slide or on the We-Go Round," said Jeff Webb, president of the Forever Parks Foundation, which spearheaded the project in partnership with the city of Pearland."It's common for people with disabilities to have a latex allergy," said Kelly Moody, Parks and Recreation Department special events and development manager.
Equipped with slides, swings and balance beams, the park has features designed for children who are autistic, blind or deaf or hard of hearing. It is open to everyone, said Moody.When:
