Pearland clinches 23-6A baseball title with 8-1 win over Strake Jesuit

Pearland used a five-RBI night from senior shortstop Anthony Avalos and another impressive outing from its pitching staff to claim an 8-1 victory over Strake Jesuit for the Oilers’ 12th consecutive victory.“We’re playing great baseball right now,” Oilers catcher Jace Caceres said. “If we keep playing this way, we won’t get beat.”In its last 22 games, Pearland is 20-1-1.
No team has scored more than one run against the Oilers since March 16, which was a 13-3 win for Pearland against Shadow Creek. “They’re all waiting to come unglued and tonight they put it together,” Pearland coach David Rogers said of his hitting lineup.Junior pitcher Ryler Smart, a Tennessee commit, was effective for four innings, allowing the lone Crusaders run.
