Staff Reports Avery Griggs delivered a game-ending two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Northside Methodist Academy to a 3-2 extra-inning win over Providence Christian in a Class 3A, Area 2 game Thursday night at the Westgate Softball Complex.
That brought up Avery Griggs, who slapped a 3-2 pitch to right field to score both runners and give the Knights the walk-off win. Dothan 6, Prattville 5 : Dothan rallied to force extra innings then eighth-grader Makenna Descalzi won the Class 7A, Area 3 game for the Wolves with a walk-off run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth.
Jada Newman had two hits, one a triple, for Dothan and McCarthy drove in two runs, adding an RBI single earlier in the game. Maylee Lancaster and Hutchins both added a hit and RBI.Enterprise 4, Wicksburg 3: Class 7A No. 10 ranked Enterprise edged Class 2A No. 1 ranked Wicksburg 4-3. Jackson struck out 10 and pitched a three-hit shutout. Bre Wilkerson, Ainyah Stokes and Allie Buckelew all had a single each for Dale County .
Kidd was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, Riley Bannin was 2-for-4 and four runs batted in, while Meeks, Aubrey Bassett and Elly Sheets all had two hits and two RBI. Emily Rhodes added two hits and one RBI and Hussey drove in three runs.Cottonwood 12, Samson 10: In a back-and-forth battle, Cottonwood held for the Class 2A, Area 2 win.Ty Nodd and Karlee Lott combined on eight hits for Cottonwood with both going 4-for-4. Nodd, who had two doubles, drove in four runs and Lott had one RBI.
Stephens went two innings, giving up the hit and the run , while striking out four. McLendon worked an inning, striking out three and walking one.
