Ridgewood culminates 13-1 season with a 26-0 win over previous undefeated Wayne Valley

Ridgewood looked good and then some, winning a second-straight North Jersey Flag Football State Championship, 26-0, over a previously undefeated Wayne Valley team that came into the game with eight consecutive shutouts. The game was sponsored by the New York Jets.

“This was our goal from the beginning of the season,” said Ridgewood’s two-way, senior standout Katie Bisgrove. “Some people had questions about how we would handle the pressure, but this is a team that came close to mastering our skills. It was a night when Ridgewood had plenty to celebrate – a second North Jersey championship, its sixth, on-the-field shutout and some unexpected news. Head coach Mickey McDermott interrupted the high fives. hugs and photos when he unveiled an infant-sized, one-piece undershirt with threads down the front of it.Ridgewood was dominant from the outset. On the opening drive it, marched to the Wayne Valley eight yard line where Bisgrove made a rare mistake, throwing an interception in the end zone.

“We came out telling ourselves this was just another game,” DeNoy said. “We were all hyped up, but after that first drive we took it down about 10 notches.”
