Judge Rohanee Zapanta, who was raised in San Diego and oversees cases in Juvenile Court, will accept the award along with 18 other women in Prague
San Diego Superior Court Judge Rohanee Zapanta will be recognized as one of the Most Influential Filipina Women in the World. Zapanta will receive the prestigious award from the Foundation for Filipina Women’s Network during a summit in Prague at the end of the month. The announcement, made Tuesday, comes as the U.S. celebrates Filipino American History Month.
The goal is to prevent recidivism but also help defendants develop solid skill sets and not stay stagnant in life, she said. 'We're acknowledging the science behind an adolescent brain,' Zapanta said of the mission. For Zapanta, the courtroom wins come when defendants understand the harm they caused while also developing a strong sense of self.
