“We wanted it to be spoofy, but we also very selfishly wanted to write a banger -- an early-2000s banger that people would actually like,” Murphy said.
While a million total streams is nothing compared to most current hit singles, which can generate millions of streams in a single week , it's still a notable achievement for a jokey song from a TV show.. Murphy appeared as a guest on Clarkson’s talk showa version of the song, including a new verse by Clarkson. In the week ending Jan. 30, the song garnered 35,000 on-demand streams in the U.S. -- up 32% compared to the previous week . The Clarkson impact continued into the week ending Feb.
“A Little Bit Alexis” hit the million-stream milestone in the week ending Feb. 6, 2020. So far, the song’s streaming fortunes have been driven solely by its official audio, which is available widely on streaming platforms. However, the song does not have a music video ., Murphy joked, “I wanna do a video, I want it to be big budget. Like, I’m talking tigers, men, horses, bears.”
