Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Monday called on former President Donald Trump to agree to any "stupid rules" requested by Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for the upcoming presidential debate.to approve debate rules for their crucial first meeting, which is scheduled for Sept. 10 on ABC News. Currently at issue are muted microphones, a provision originally negotiated between Trump and President Joe Biden.
The Harris campaign is for unmuting the mics, accusing Trump’s teams of doubting whether “their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own.” Trump, however, wants to stick to the previous terms negotiated with Biden.I think Trump needs to do the debate,” Cruz said. “And frankly, I think he should agree to whatever stupid rules they want. It’s going to be hostile and rigged regardless.
“I think Kamala Harris would love to cancel the debate and blame it on Trump,” he added. “She’s in a basement, they don’t want her challenged ever. If they have an excuse to get out of a debate, they can literally do nothing for the next 71 days and count on the corporate media to lie.”on Harris to meet with the press as she seemingly dodges formal interviews in favor of large rallies.
