Letter to the Editor: I would like the Browns to play better, but not at the cost of our national reputation and self-respect. Because that’s an actual tragedy.
Professional sports are entertainment. That’s it. That’s why they exist. The outcome of a professional sports contest does nothing other than impact the mood, demeanor, and interest level of the fans. It doesn’t impact our economy, our lives, or our place in the world. As such, implying that a football team that doesn’t win is some sort of tragedy that negatively impacts our city, our children, or ourselves is simply silly. And more than a little sad.
Jimmy Haslam’s ownership of this team has been marked by constant staffing changes, poorly considered personnel moves, and now, the acquisition of a player with great skill but little or no self-control and demonstrated antipathy toward women. I would like the Browns to play better, but not at the cost of our national reputation and self-respect. Because that’s an actual tragedy.
