The Rings of Power is robbing viewers of something deeper | Opinion
Amazon Prime Video’s new release, is visually breathtaking. There is something awesome about representations of the two trees of light in Valinor , and something poignant in seeing the elf Galadriel bond with her oldest brother, Finrod.
I like the Amazon series: I suspect the people who write it took deep dives similar to mine. They must have roamed worlds made out of words, just as I did. They must have loved the words themselves, and the magic contained in the words’ power to make readers kindle imagination and become a part of Tolkien’s grand vision.
Even if every detail were shown in film, my real source of grief would not be assuaged. For there is something of supreme beauty and value that is lost when movies become reasons not to read great books.
