“I’m having fun with it! I’m not being too hard on myself. I’m embracing the excess skin and stretch marks.”
The pressure to snap back after pregnancy can be very real—but is also unrealistic. Bringing a human into the world is a major event for any woman’s body, so naturally it’ll take time to recover. Yet, new moms everywhere still constantly hear about tips on how to lost the baby weight—never mind the newborn that is likely occupying most of their time. Now, more and more women are speaking out against the unrealistic expectation, including actress and cookbook author, Tia Mowry.
The mom of two recently took to Instagram to share an image from her workout and explain that her midsection had been the most challenging area to work out. She wrote in the caption, “Got it in! Working on my #core. Let’s talk about the #mid-section after #pregnancy! It can be the most challenging! But I’m having fun with it! I’m not being too hard on myself. I’m embracing the excess skin and stretch marks. Two amazing beautiful children were birthed and I rejoice.
Fellow moms can definitely relate and they took to the comments section to share their support. “The MOST difficult place to tone post baby, but you look AMAZING!!” Emmy-winning TV host & NY Times bestselling author Daphne Oz wrote. “You're doing a great job!! You're an Awesome person inside and out,” another follower commented.
Mowry gave birth to daughter, Cairo Tiahna, with husband Cory Hardrict, in May 2018. The pair also share an 8-year-old son, Cree Taylor. Mowry has been candid about her postpartum journey—frequently using her social media as a platform to “check in.” In October, she openly spoke about the pressures to “snap back” after pregnancy.
“Checking in. #17months post pregnant. I did it my way and in my time. Many women feel the need to #snapback right away after they deliver. That was never the goal for me. I was called #fat during my #pregnancy and I was called #fat after my #pregnancy. Why do we do this to each other? Instead of #love one another? I will never understand that,” she wrote in the caption.
