Shannon Williams, 35, has been charged with murder and weapons charges in Friday night’s fatal shooting on Beakes Street, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said in a statement.
Williams was taken to the Mercer County Correction Center on Saturday, where he awaits a detention hearing. On Friday at about 7 p.m., police arrived at the first block on Beakes Street for a reported shooting, where they found a victim “lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, back and face,” the statement said. The victim was identified as 47-year-old Emanuel Ross, of Trenton, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Authorities found three shell casings near the victim and reviewed surveillance footage from the Mayor Donnelly Homes — a housing complex adjacent to Beakes Street — which showed a suspect “pulling out a gun and firing three shots in the direction of the victim,” according to the statement. Officials said they were able to identify Williams as the shooter.
