Layoffs of thousands of the company's workforce are a key part of new owner Elon Musk's plans for the company. They are set to happen Friday.
, Twitter employees are to receive an email by 9 a.m. Pacific time Friday with the subject line,"Your role at Twitter." Workers who are keeping their jobs will receive the missive via their company email account; those slated to be eliminated will be notified via their personal account.
Twitter employees have been instructed not to come to the office Friday while they await word of their fate. Large-scale layoffs at Twitter have been expected since the mercurial entrepreneur completed a $44 billion acquisition one week ago to take the company private. He has moved at breakneck speed to remake the company, firing its top leadership, suspending new product launches and considering new policies affecting Twitter users and employees.
"We acknowledge this is an incredibly challenging experience to go through, whether or not you are impacted," today's email said, according to The Post."We are grateful for your contributions to Twitter and for your patience as we move through this process." Workers told The Post it is the first official communication that they have received from the company since Musk's purchased became official last Thursday.
