The Utah Department of Transportation has issued a Road Weather Alert for the state, warning of potential heavy rain and high mountain snowfall

According to the alert, statewide rain and rain showers are expected throughout Friday and into Saturday, with heavy rain at times along parts of the Wasatch Front. High mountain snowfall is anticipated to start Friday morning and last through Saturday night before dissipating. UDOT forecasts heavy road snow above 9,000 feet, with higher mountain ranges seeing over a foot of new snow. High passes and summits between 7,500-9,000 feet will experience periods of considerable road snow and slush through Friday and Saturday. Brief slush ups are possible down to about 7,000 feet, including Parleys Summit, by late Friday night and into early Saturday morning.
All routes below 7,000 feet are expected to run wet with mostly rain falling over the next few days. Areas of standing and ponding water may occur along lower elevation routes across the urban corridor throughout Friday.The following routes are expected to be impacted by weather through midnight on Sunday.US-40, Daniels Canyon to Strawberry Reservoir
