Call it a glorious Gruyere. A delicious dairy dish. A champion cheese.
In record-breaking fashion, a Gruyere from Switzerland claimed the cheese world's top prize Thursday, earning the title of 2020 World Champion Cheese.
The cheese: Gourmino Le Gruyère AOP from Bern, Switzerland, made by Michael Spycher of Mountain Dairy Fritzenhaus for Gourmino AG. It scored 98.81 out of 100 as it beat out a record-breaking 3,667 entries from 26 nations in the biennial World Championship Cheese Contest held in Madison, Wisconsin. "This is quite a good cheese," said Stefan Truttmann, a judge who accepted the award on the Swiss cheese makers' association's behalf, theSpycher and his Gruyere are no strangers to the winner's circle: They took home the same prize in 2008.
