Plastic bag bans become law in parts of the country
New York State's Department of Environmental Conservation estimates 23 billion plastic bags are used throughout the state annually, and too many are too often seen floating down city streets.A pedestrian carries plastic shopping bags in New York, March 31, 2019.All stores and shops in the state will not be allowed to provide customers with a plastic bag at the checkout. Customers will have to use their own bags, such as those made from reusable cotton.
