Mariners in championship contest for the first time since 2014, will face Olympian
The season, a trip to the San Diego Section Division III championship game, was on the line, and Mar Vista High baseball coach Bobby Rector called on Devon King to get his Mariners out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam.
“My role is to close games,” King said. “I’m a one-, two-inning guy. Coming in with the bases loaded was a little nerve-racking, but I knew if I made my pitches I’d be OK.” Trevor Rector, who is now 5-1, was the winning pitcher in the first Mar Vista win at RBV and King was the closer.
