Led by Plano Mayor John Muns, the program is designed to prepare students for a successful transition into college and their life-long careers.

Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply but only the first 400 applications will be considered. As a result, students are urged to apply early.

The eight-week paid internship program runs from June 6 to July 29, although some start dates are flexible depending on the employer. Students selected for the program will earn a minimum of $10 per hour and work 20 to 40 hours per week.Students chosen for the program will work with some of the area’s leading corporations and nonprofits. Among them are national headquarters, government entities, small businesses and local charities.

This year, Muns has made it a priority to increase both the number of AVID students as well as those who are first-generation college students, according to an announcement.To qualify, students must complete an online application which includes two short essays.Students must also be:Able to work the entire eight weeks of the internship from June 6 to July 29 .
